Tutoring / Teaching
Having come through the grades from Novice Juvenile right through to Grade 1, Charlie has performed alongside some of the best Pipe Band drummers in the World. Having been originally taught the Bass Drum by former World Champion Ian McLean (Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia) Charlie has gained a vast amount of knowledge which has helped with the progression of many Bass Drummers including the teaching of two World Champions in the past three years.
Charlie took up tenor drumming in the summer of 2005 where he learned from Simone Reid (Simon Fraser University) at Piping Hot Summer Drummer. After just a few short months Charlie was moved up to the Grade 1 Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia where he picked up the 2007 Grade 1 British Drumming Championship and the 2007 Grade 1 Drumming Champion of Champions honour. During his playing time at Boghall, Charlie struck up a friendship with former World Champion Trevor Buckley, who helped him progress his playing and reading/writing of music. Having captured every Solo Tenor Drumming title in Scotland that he has entered, and, winning the 2008 Celtic Thistle Open title, which was held in Northern Ireland. Although he has stopped competing now, he continues to teach throughout the country. His teaching ability is becoming well known as his students continue to win multiple solo awards. He also helped to guide Boghall & Bathgate Juvenile to the 2009 European Drumming Championship and to capturing various Bass Section awards.
Charlie is available for workshops, or for private lessons to help any level of tenor drummer in reading / writing scores, flourishing techniques, beatings, drum tuning etc etc. Please use the contact page for more information.
